  • Michael Kwan · 4 months ago
I must not have noticed him while he was there, because I didn't even know that Kid Carson used to be with Z95.
  • Candice · 4 months ago
wow - talk about going down memory lane! I've wondered what has happened to a few of the old Z Crew - Glad to see most have been able to stick around Vancouver. Hope you stay around here Buzz! The afternoons just aren't the same without you anymore :(
  • buzz · 4 months ago
@Michael Kid was the evening guy for about a year before going to the Beat
  • Z · 4 months ago
Jonny Staub was also there, I believe just after Kid
  • buzz · 4 months ago
Thanks I knew I would forget some ... will add to the list.

  • Jennifer · 4 months ago
I remember Kid did some stint at a mall for Christmas.. I still have that old CD cover with the picture of everyone who was working that summer.. it was a best of summer cd or something
  • Tracy · 4 months ago
Okay I am confused... (not an unfamiliar feeling) ... did you leave on your own accord and where are you headed now? You will be missed!

Thank you for the trip down memory lane... good times a station i grew up listening while my parents listened to CISL 650... (i know such a rebel) now... the former Z is far from anything I enjoy listening anymore :(
  • buzz · 4 months ago
@Tracy - it wasnt my choice to leave, but I'm fine with it all - I'm currently looking for the bigger and better things.
  • kentology · 4 months ago
i was at the launch at the old Graceland and remember all the appies "floating" on dry ice. first song played was c&c music factory 'here we go' and i think the second song was madonna 'vogue'.

Hey Buzz- hope you're picked up quickly- and let us know where! Funny story: i booked my hubby's bday party box seat at hastings with Kelly....totally not realizing it was Kelly from Z!
Good luck and i truly miss you and KJ on my drive home

OMG... so many memories... Thanks Buzz ! Now I must go dig through old photos, looking for pictures, to see how you folks looked at the remotes, all those many years ago... but first I must lie down, because apparently, I am old...
  • Davin Greenwell · 4 months ago
Oh man, I used to listen to that station all the time. It was my fav. back in the day. And back in the night. I never understood the whole "Swift and Kool in the leather studded jock straps!" thing, but they spun wicked tracks.

    did kuljeet leave virgin too?

Hey, give me a break with the "unemployed" part...I just got fired a few days ago...first time in 16 years! lol
  • buzz · 4 months ago
Lol. I'm on there too man.. :)
  • Puffy · 4 months ago
2 names Buzzy that aren't on there.... What about The Woodman and Tucek??? There was also Jeff something or other. He was the guy with the BIG voice and hot little car!!!
  • Puffy · 4 months ago
Such incredible memories from 96-99 for me personally after seeing some of those names!!! Zack Spencer hired me right out of radio school then got canned a week later. Curtis became a mentor listening to airchecks and helping me get on the air for the first time. The 501 giveaway shutting down 911 in Delta!!! Working 28 overnights in row because there was no overnight jock and of course Club 95 where I made some lifelong friends and so many more.... tear...

Hey Buzz...AWESOME post. Wow, what a trip down memory lane.

You have so many amazing talents Buzz...can't wait to see what's in store for you next...no doubt it will be HUGE.
  • Rich Patterson · 4 months ago
Amazing memories too, thanks! My fave is the Z95.3 winnebago with bubble surround booth at the back. It seemed to be at Kits' Senior Frogs every weekend when I was bouncing there in Summer 1991. What a summer! Awesome! I can't remember what on-air personalities brought to Sr. Frogs, but I do remember tonnes of cheap swag being given away.

    Where's that RV now, decommissioned?
  • Jeremy · 4 months ago
ha, I was an OP for maybe one week, maybe two? Big Daddy trained me and some creepy dude that would hit on all the young tweens that would call up requests. he'd pretend to be whatever jock VT'd the overnight shift. so weird.

Thanks for the refresher....what fun to read! And so much fun working with you all those years!
  • Jennifer Thomson · 4 months ago
WOW! Crazy awesome memories and a big piece of my heart is reserved for my years at Z95. I remember the GM telling us "THESE are the good old days, cherish them"

    and he was right.
  • DJ Specs · 4 months ago
Wow, great list Buzz! Brings back all the memories from back in that days.. never will forget the station launch.. sitting in a studio in LG73 secretly listening.. hehe..

Great post Buzz. I've kept in touch with a lot of the old Z-crew, but had missed a few and wondered where they went.
We made some really great radio back then, obviously I'm biased, but I haven't heard anything like it since the original Z days.
I still have people that work here on my teams and say "hey! I used to listen to you when I was 13...."
    renunion anyone?

Hey Buzz - so sorry to hear about you and Kuljeet Kaila - I thought your afternoon show was awesome! I thought you were on holidays and would be returning. I CANNOT stand Kiah Tucker (Tara Jean is ok) and don't listen to Virgin in the afternoons anymore - swiftly turning the dial whenever I hear his voice. I have made my opinions known to the managment at Virgin, but it didn't seem to do any good - I guess you get what you pay for. Please let us know where you and KJ end up - as I really enjoyed your show.

Hey Buzz - Jen is so right. Those were the good old days. I left the mighty Zed nine years ago after the birth of my second child. I am now a freelance writer and although I will forever miss the amazing people and crazy fun that was life in radio, self-employment has serious benefits! No more programming meetings or annual reviews - there is life after radio my friend and it is sweet. Best of luck.

For the past few days, I have been wondering when you were coming back to join me on my drive home from work. Since you weren't listed as one of the hosts on Virgin, I knew something wasn't right. I will miss you and KJ and wish you luck! My afternoons aren't the same without you.
  • Glen · 4 months ago
I have to say that I was not a big fan of Z95 when it first launched, but over the years I came to like it as it became more mainstream and I probably became more tolerant of new music. I appreciated your voice over the years on the radio Buzz. We are the same age and started our careers at about the same time. I had the pleasure to talk to you once and found you very likable. Good luck on your next career move and I hope that it is on Satellite Radio.

Hi Buzz - I finally clued in about two weeks ago that you and KJ weren't coming back. I was a faithful listener to your show and was really sorry to hear you were gone. so to confirm my suspicions I googled you and found your blog and now have spent the past hour looking at previous posts - wish I'd looked it up sooner.
this past about past deejays takes me back. I've been listening to 95.3 since it started back in the 90's. I was wondering if you know what happened to Darren B Lamb (i'm not sure if the spelling is correct) but I remember him being on in the mornings when I was going to university.
i wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do next and all future endeavours.

    Hi KJ:

It appears I'm late to the party:

Over the past month's I've wondered why I wasn't hearing you on Virgin, until I stumbled across this site.

I really miss hearing the smile in your voice in the early morning. That said, I wish you bigger & better experiences ahead!

Omg! I just began going through this thread and I remember so many of you!!

Best wishes to you ALL : =)

Thanks for posting this! I did always wonder where everyone went. I also grew up on Z95 and that's always what it'll be (sorry Virgin).

from 1999-2002 i used to listen to z95.3 all the time
i was 12-15, and i miss the good times sitting in my old room and listening to "baby one more time" or "love lift me" and having no worries being ignorant of all the evil in this world as i now am aware of. i wish i can get that back.. i miss pam steven's voice, i miss top 6 at 6 and top 10 at 10 and i miss how the backstreet boys always get the most votes
