re your blog statement of yesterday Buzz : TODAY ...we still all bitch and complain and the sad thing ....so few went to the polling station . Not neccesarily the fault of the party leaders ...Does this prove : the general public does not care , does not want to take a positive stand ....and live will go on in any case ???

Here's the thing, we're election-ed out. We've had too many polls to attend over the past 12 years... It's completely unnecessary, and a total waste of money. The whole exercise as far as Harper was concerned, was to unseat a very smart, yet totally uncharismatic guy... Dion. But, he didn't think ahead. He knew he was likely going to get another minority, and now Dion will lose his leadership -- And I really hope they choose better this time.

So, all Harper got out of this was a few more seats, and likely a far greater threat for future votes.

Oh, and a loss of $300 Million. That sickens me.

Great post Buzz - I've thought from the start that Harper was wasting time and money by calling this election, and you're exactly right about how he is going to govern. No one wants another election; no one wanted this one except Harper, so the opposition is not going to stop Harper when he passes his agenda on to us. I saw Ujjal Dosanj who seems to think the Liberals will stand up to Harper and vote against him in Ottawa, forcing him to get support from the NDP and Bloc, but I don't see it happening; Dion himself (who'll soon be looking for work) said that he'd work with the Conservatives.

Also, my new favourite person/term is Rex Murphy/Seinfeld Election.

Oh Buzz. For somebody who loves wine, I'm surprised by the sour grapes.

You can't seriously sit there and tell me that Liberal supporters voted for Green candidates because of the branding of the Liberals' carbon tax plan. They ditched the party because a Carbon tax is a bad idea right now. Very few Canadians want to pay more tax when we're slipping into a recession.

As for the Greens screwing up the vote, you're assuming that they would have voted for the Liberals had the party not been formed? How many Green voters used to vote NDP. How many voted for a marijuana candidate? How many spoiled the ballot? How many didn't vote at all? It's a mistake to vilify people who voted to forward a cause.

Why don't you instead look at the facts from this election. The Liberal party ran a horrible campaign behind a leader that the party elite don't believe in. The Liberals are being punished for bring bad ideas to an election and for neglecting one of the key determining factors for voters; strong leadership. Dion is a loser. The Liberals are losers. That's why the Conservatives gained votes and the Liberals lost votes.

Lo and behold, the news is good today. Canada will show economic growth this year. Maybe Stephen Harper was actually right about something. (Just wanted that to be on your blog.)

I was ranting at Wet Coast about it all too..mainly how so little voted and how under represented the west is yet again..

    http://www.wetcoastwomen.com/2008/the-morning-a...

And yeah..people are punishing the Liberals...too many old school there and not enough faith in Dion...but then the rest of the left split between the greens and ndp...didn't leave enough votes to count.
